Palmerston, also known as Ava’rau, is a small coral atoll in the Cook Islands, approximately 500km from Rarotonga. It is inhabited by around 62 people, primarily descendants of William Masters, the founder of the settlement in 1863, and is a unique island where English is the native language. The atoll offers a tropical climate, rich marine life and coconut palms, while the economy is based on fishing and tourism.
