The Jihomoravský kraj, located in South Moravia, is one of the 14 regions of the Czech Republic with Brno as its historical capital. The region offers a diverse landscape ranging from fertile fields and vineyards in the south to caves and gorges in the north, including the Podyjí National Park and the Moravian Karst. South Moravia has a long history, from prehistoric finds to Slavic rulers and the Great Moravian Empire. Particularly noteworthy are the UNESCO World Heritage sites Villa Tugendhat in Brno and the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape.
