Tábor Lety u Písku was initially a penal labor camp and later a collection camp for Czech Roma and Sinti during World War II. Established in 1940, it became a site of systematic persecution and internment from 1942, where people suffered hunger, disease, and violence under inhumane conditions. The majority of those interned were subsequently deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. After the war, the camp was long neglected, and a large-scale pig farm was built on its grounds in the 1970s. Following years of effort and the state’s purchase of the farm, the pig farm was demolished, and a new memorial with an exhibition commemorating the tragedy of the Roma Holocaust opened in its place in 2024.Wikipedia
