The Green Bank Observatory in West Virginia is home to the Robert C. Byrd-Green Bank Telescope, the world’s largest fully steerable radio telescope. It’s located in a special “Radio Quiet Zone” to minimize interference – diesel vehicles are even preferred! In addition to researching the origins of the universe, the observatory actively searches for extraterrestrial life, including through the Breakthrough Listen project. The observatory has a rich history, including hosting the first SETI conference in 1961, and features other historical instruments as well as a visitor center alongside the large telescope.Wikipedia
